Edgar Allan Poe had Irish heritage through his paternal side, which can be traced to his great-grandfather, David Poe, who emigrated from County Cavan, Ireland, around 1749.

The family were among the Scotch-Irish who settled in Pennsylvania before moving to Baltimore, where Poe’s grandfather was born.
