Massachusetts monuments honor Irish heroes of Easter Rising and fight for freedom

The 1916 Garden of Remembrance in Springfield opened on the centenary of the Easter Rising

The Irish men and women who bravely fought in the 1916 Easter Rising are commemorated in a garden of remembrance with a monument of the Irish proclamation in Springfield, Massachusetts.

The 1916 Garden of Remembrance opened in Forest Park on the centenary of the Easter Rising in 2016. The garden’s centerpiece is a monument engraved with the 1916 Proclamation.

The Irish American community in Massachusetts came to Ireland’s aid during the fight for freedom and the state was the first to create a memorial in the US in honor of the heroes of the Easter Rising.
